The Great 86 Royalists

Yet another distinguished group of Royalists passed out in 1986. From the days of primary school, through middle school to the upper school '86 Royalists, showed their talent in Sports, Studies as well as in Extra-Curricular activities.

In 1985 the Royal College celebrated its l50th Anniversary. The College organized a large exhibition and a carnival to commemorate the event. Royalists be-longing to group '86 were in A-Level classes and were heading most of the societies and clubs such as, Science Association the Archaeological Society and the Philatelic Club. Hence '86 members contributed so much and did a tremendous job in making the exhibition a great success.

In 1983 at the O/L examination Royal College created history. Group' 86 members bagged 83 'Eight Distinctions' - largest number in the history of Sri Lanka from one school/batch to achieve this feat. In 1986 the same batch sat for the A/L and results were simply out of this world. The feat they achieved was enormous: Fifty Two entered Medical College and 48 to the engineering faculty, and many more to various other fields in Universities here and abroad.

As soon as they passed out from College, they formed the 'Group of 86' attached to the Royal College Union. It is today 38 years old and is regarded as one of the most active groups in the College, and received wide publicity and appreciation for the projects they have undertaken for the benefit of their Alma-matter. They were commended by not only the principal of the College, but also by the R. C. U. and the college teachers.

They initiated the unique concept of felicitating the teachers of Royal College. Every year teachers are felicitated at a special function held for this purpose. They still and will in future too continue their hard work for the betterment of the college, now so many years after leaving the College.
